AUDIO—THE OTHER SIDE OF THE PICTURE
High-definition camcorders, DLSRs and desktop editing software have opened new creative opportunities for producing top-notch, cinema-quality video. Yet even the most stunning images lose their luster when accompanied by poor-quality sound. Today, affordable digital audio systems offer the ability to help users capture and create superb sound for any visual media.
HDVideoPro—the leading magazine for professional and serious amateur filmmakers—presents “CineSoundPro," a new section covering tools, techniques and gear for audio production in the video/film environment. Created by veteran pro audio journalist/editor George Petersen, CineSoundPro launched in the July/August issue of HDVideoPro, and is designed to appeal to the audience of active enthusiasts and pros who want to take their work to the next level, using modern production techniques, hardware and applications. Bound into every issue of HDVideoPro, “CineSoundPro” is designed to deliver just that, and features hands-on production tips for editing/sound development and location sound, new products and much more.
About George Petersen
Raised in San Francisco, George Petersen grew up in Italy, where he performed in rock bands, opening for acts such as The Searchers. Returning to America for college, he worked as an IATSE Journeyman doing 35/70mm projection, live sound mixing, Dolby Stereo theater installs and film/video production. As an undergrad, he became involved in the independent filmmaker movement, taught cinematography, editing and sound design, and—on the basis of several of his award-winning short films—entered the Master's program at S.F. State University. After writing for various film magazines, he joined the editorial staff of Mix magazine, eventually becoming Editorial Director.
Widely regarded as the industry's preeminent journalistic voice on professional audio, George has written 1200 articles on every aspect of audio production and has lectured on audio topics worldwide at major industry events. He also operates a record label, 24-track recording studio, video editing/DVD authoring suite, film/video camera rigs and a full complement of grip/support and location/studio/theatrical lighting.

Interview: "Audio for Futurama"
